CodeCanyon is safe as a marketplace: payment, download and refunds are handled by Envato, and items pass a review before listing. The risks are not about being scammed — they are about what you bought. The standard Regular Licence does not let you charge other people to use the software, a large share of items described as multi-tenant are single-tenant, and included support is six months, extendable at a cost. Read the licence and test the demo, and it is a reasonable place to buy.

What is genuinely safe about it
To be fair to the platform, several real risks of buying code from a stranger on the internet are removed.
- The payment is escrowed and refundable. There is a published refund policy and a dispute route that does not depend on the author’s goodwill.
- Items are reviewed before listing. Review is not an audit, but it filters out the most obvious non-functional and plagiarised submissions.
- Author history is public. Sales count, rating, comment threads and the author’s response times are all visible before you pay, and the comments are usually more informative than the description.
- You get the source. Envato requires that buyers receive the actual files, not a hosted account.

Can I run a SaaS on a CodeCanyon Regular Licence?

Are CodeCanyon items nulled or stolen code?
